How Is Ayah?

Last Friday, I received a call from my father-in-law. He was asking about how Ayah was doing and was moved to do so as many of his friends had been asking him at the mosque after prayers. Worse still, some of Ayah's friends were asking and complaining that they couldn't get an update even from this blog!

Truth be told, Ayah sprung a surprise on me last Wednesday when he did not tell us he was being discharged from the hospital that day. For my siblings, news on this spread fast enough, but as I was occupied with work and the MAYC Buka Puasa event with Tun Dr Mahathir, I only just got to know from Ayah's friends among the MAYC Veterans who had tried to see him at the hospital in the afternoon only to find that he had checked out!

So, to all who have been following this blog for news of Ayah's progress, my humblest apologies. For your information, Ayah has been discharged from SJMC and is convalescing at home. He still needs much rest, and advice not just from his doctors, but THE Doctor, Tun Dr Mahathir, who reminded me as such on the same Wednesday Ayah was discharged. Those who wish to visit may sms his mobile (probably being sentried by my Nyanyak) or contact me.

I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the dedicated Doctors and staff at SJMC, or now known as Sime Darby Medical Centre at Subang Jaya for their tireless effort for which Allah S.W.T. has seen fit for us to have a further time extension to spend with Ayah. I reserve special mention for Dato' Setia Dr Anuar Masduki whose dedication, wisdom and sheer persistence dragged Ayah from edge of the abyss when those of us who knew suspected all may be lost...

As a family, we are ever grateful to Datuk Dr Anwar, his collegues and the staff of SJMC and thank them for their continued patience in managing the non-ideality presented by my Ayah's treatment and our family's managing of the situation.

Finally, thank you also to family, from Jakarta, Acheh, Subang Jaya and Yan, Ayah's friends spanning from Sweden, Medan, Port Dickson, Langkawi, Gombak to the Middle East, friends of us siblings, as well as total strangers who remembered Ayah's deeds well enough to gift him with at least the Doa so Allah S.W.T. may consider us worthy of having Ayah for a little more time. Your real and spiritual support, especially for those who came to be with us, we hold dear.

Some mention is due also to friends in both traditional and new media for carrying the news we wished carried... for the most part! We know it was not all ideal and forgive any minor failings due to the good that your efforts have brought outweighing the bad.

As to what happens now, we will be seeking further advice from Dato' Dr Anwar when Ayah has healed sufficiently. The rest will be in Allah's hands...

Ayah No Longer Under Critical Care As Ramadhan Begins

I received the wonderful news yesterday that Ayah has recovered enough that he no longer needs to be under critical care. However, he still needs much rest, hence, guests will still need to be patient when visiting as my Nyak will not likely allow more than a couple of guests in at a time and only over short periods when Ayah is not resting. Ayah not only has to rest to his Doctors' orders but to Tun Dr M's advice.

Ramadhan is upon it and it is our sincere hope that Ayah regains his full strength within this holy month, as it will allow us also to enjoy Hari Raya celebrating his health as well as the conclusion of our obligations to fast, give alms and perform other good works. Ramadhan also provides me with the opportunity to really reduce my weight and hopefully avoid the troubles Ayah has been facing, or at least delay its onset...

I am in Sandakan today working, in Kuching tomorrow and will fly into more meetings in KL on Thursday, all events on these 3 days ending in a Majlis Berbuka Puasa! It will be a challenge not to stuff myself at buka puasa, but a worthy challenge I'm sure you'll agree. So Selamat Berpuasa to all Muslims out there and remember what Ramadhan is all about please when confronted by the buffet table...

Another First For Tun Dr Mahathir: The First Visitor Ayah Could Speak To!

Ayah's situation alhamdulillah improved significantly enough this late morning for the respirator tube to be removed. His situation still keeps him under critical care, but for once he has just an oxygen mask and far fewer drugs keeping him stable.

Nyak and I were just waiting to return to his bedside when who was to appear other than Tun Dr Mahathir himself! Fortunately also, Ayah was still wide awake when Tun arrived, hence allowing Tun the opportunity to be the first of Ayah's visitors able to converse with him since the procedure. The exchange was short, but we are grateful for the visit as Tun has advised REST as the ultimate cure. The effect of the visit has also been positive for Ayah's morale we think.

Unfortunately, my obesity was an item of discussion... for good reason... and which I endured nor just in good grace but happiness...

Ayah Kembali Berkomunikasi

Demam Ayah Reda Sedikit, Terima Kasih Atas Doa

Wallahualam...

Pengasas ABIM Masih Dalam Keadaan Kritikal - ABIM Founder Still In Critical State

It is among the sources of greatest pain to Ayah I am sure, though it has always remained relatively well hidden, that he, TS Sanusi Junid, was never formally acknowledged as the THE founder of ABIM by the organisation itself. It would seem that in the drive to project DS Anwar Ibrahim as a great leader, many even of the original cohort are happy to commit the sin of bearing false witness that it is supposedly Anwar Ibrahim who founded ABIM!

Unfortunately for nay-sayers of TS Sanusi's involvement in ABIM, there is too much historical documentation that backs the truth. For instance, the articles of formation of ABIM clearly states TS Sanusi as the founding Vice President, with ABIM registered at his home address! Anwar Ibrahim's name as a key office bearer was conspicuously absent! This was as Anwar was leading the Muslim Students' NGO, PKPIM, and chasing the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) too!

There is no denying that DS Anwar was the source of the name ABIM, proposed to replace the original name ADAM to enable him to use ABIM as a vehicle to remain active in Youth politics after his departure from university. But therein one sees Anwar's involvement was always laced in self interest. Perhaps this is why many ABIM activists from the earliest days, such as Prof. Datuk Dr Sidek Baba, has since abandoned DS Anwar for their original leader, TS Sanusi Junid.

It is to these sincere campaigners of Islam as well as many other friends and those touch by TS Sanusi Junid's deeds that his family now turns to for assistance in the form of doa on this Friday. May your good words beseeching Allah swt to grant my Ayah more time on this earth to continue contributing his wisdom, time and energy, results in Allah swt granting us such a pleasure. With all sincerity.

Doa Untuk Ayah, A Prayer For Ayah

Kami sekeluarga kini tak putus berdoa sementara menanti usaha terkini para doktor Ayah.

Please lend a prayer all who may dein to so as Allah may allow us some more time with Ayah. He is critically ill, his heart ...

Berita Ayah Dan Usaha Membereskan Urusan

Tetapi fitnah Tuan Syed Rahman pula mematikan fitnah pemimpin Belia yang didukunginya, kerana apakah logiknya TS Sanusi merebut harta MAYC sekiranya betul MAYC parah kewangannya seperti diwar-warkan Tuan Syed Rahman?

Logikkah?

A Couple Of Worthy Plugs

Was asked to, checked out and agreed to plug a new comedy program that an old friend, former Angkasawan candidate and fellow UK grad, Zaid Zahari, has been working on. Check it out from tonight, Wednesday, 9.30pm on Astro RIA. The program's a sketch series that is common in the UK but not so common here... yet. It's called Alamak and they have a website for you to check out.

Whilst I'm plugging, noticed recently that my Ayah has started writting again, and in more earnest than previously! He's now got an irregular column in Berita Minggu and his blog has had a few of postings already that are both informative historically and still relevant to the present. He is my Ayah, so please check out his write-up on the ISA (he was Deputy Home Minister) if you don't think I'm credible as a plugger :-)

I'm rather proud that my Ayah is writing these pieces though, as he's showcasing a better way for political veterans and former leaders to contribute to society - through views, reflections and ideas that do not impose, but simply instigate debate and greater depths in thought. And also hinting that you don't have to be a Tun to do so...

A Reason To Leave And A Reason To Stay In UMNO...

It is the 1st of August 2008 and I am still a member of UMNO. I have to admit, this is a bit of a surprise to me, and I was headed towards the exit till ~3 weeks ago when epiphany struck on reasons to leave and stay.

The reason to leave UMNO was made plainer and clearer to me over the period of the celebrations of Tun Dr M and my Ayah's birthday (they happen to share this, my Ayah in 1943 and Tun Dr M in 1925). Over the course if events over that weekend, I saw my Ayah give one of his best speeches in a long time, and I saw an unreserved acceptance of his views from the entire audience. It then struck me...
  1. When my Ayah left UMNO, it removed all possibility that his motives for speaking his mind was to pursue a position for himself in the party.

  2. For the audience, the speech then was seen as a sincere expression of views, with no motives linked to the pursuit of power.

  3. To my Ayah, any temptation to moderate his views 'just in case' he can go for a party post has been removed, and so he could speak freely.
I assume these same benefits are also gained by Tun Dr M with his leaving the party, with the audience in one event clearly expressing their disappointment that he could not be a candidate for party President whilst he remains outside. Of course, they can say this openly now that he's not a party member.... but as party members, the take-away would be that we have to chart a future path free of Mahathir now...

This understanding of why my Ayah left UMNO has brought the reasons of my staying on still, even now, into sharper focus. I still believe in continuing with my 'Duri Dalam Daging' activities... at least till they to sack me! But perhaps it's time for me to add some steel to my words by attaining a position or the power to back it... this may be worth considering...

Starting to Ramble a little here I think, so perhaps I can end by sharing reasons to stay...
  1. Much as I lament Pak Lah's announcement of his late departure mid-2010, I nevertheless see this as a small win, as at last he admits he has to go and was forced to commit to a date well before PRU-13 is due. So, we must persist, as we are 'winning' the struggle for the removal of Lah.

  2. The pressure to bring Pak Lah down sooner is continuing to mount, but perhaps more behind the scenes. E.g. 80% of Mubarak, the ex-UMNO MP's club, endorsed a proposal for Pak Lah to hand-over to Datuk Seri Najib by Dec 2008. The 20% who disagreed sabotaged a formal announcement though, but we shall see if one emerges, but here's one version of the story.

  3. The UMNO grassroots want change, with its core yearning for a return to the party's purer struggle for the betterment of Malays. As I get to know more people in the party, this is becoming more apparent, and leaving them to struggle whilst I continue my screaming from the outside hadly seems fair. Don't believe that they are determined? Check out what the grassroots did to KJ's allies recently... and how his barriers in Negri Sembilan are rising...

Hence in UMNO I shall remain for now... and may it be for the better well ahead of the worse... As they say,"Perjuangan Belum Selesai..."

Pak Lah And 4th Floor's Hadhari Act Of Removing Sanusi Junid (The Blogger) From UIAM

I had written before of Pak Lah and his minions' plans to remove my Ayah Tan Sri Sanusi Junid from the post of UIAM President. Well, this has now come to pass, which is sad for my Ayah and the family in general, but is perhaps even sadder for the university and the nation as a whole.

I wish not to elaborate further on this here, but would rather refer you to
Sanusi Junid's new blog, where you may read the press relase of his acceptance of as well as his reponse to the dismissal. The first press release on the issue had been posted earlier.

I would also like to record my thanks here to
Che Det for also coming to my Ayah's defence.

This posting I think best analyses the issue by far.

And a typically astute observation by another blogger friend here.

Has Sanusi Junid Been Sacked?

This question has been asked of me a lot since last night, whether my Ayah, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid has been sacked from his job as UIAM President. This follows much talk of this happening, but as is the norm for the Lah-ist regime, not much action. Well, it would seem that the time for talk was over and there's just too many goodies at UIAM to leave the Presidency well enough alone, despite recent assurances from the Minister of Higher Education.

Not wanting to pre-empt too much here, but there will be a press conference this afternoon on the matter. Will update later, as it is adab Islam and adat Melayu that the young give way to elders in words and deeds.

Melindungi UIAM Dari Gejala Politik Dan Hadhari

To Sack A President...

It's been a busy week at work and we're doing a short hop north with the kids, but I find compelled to blog on something seeing as I've been smsed and called today on this repeatedly.

There is a rumour going around that my Ayah, Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, is about to be sacked from his post as International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM or UIAM) President. The post may sound honorary, but it does have some executive pull, and in his time, my Ayah has been able to do some cool things at UIAM.

The rumour goes that whilst my Ayah has another 2 years of his current contract as UIAM President to run, some people are interested in the post. These interested individuals hence wish to take advantage of Tun Dr M's clash with Pak Lah to influence 'Putrajaya' to sack my Ayah, who recently also declared his wish to see Pak Lah resign.

(This idea of Putrajaya, probably a 4th floor area of the town, sacking TS Sanusi Junid in itself is a little strange as it is the Sultan of Pahang who has such authority)

Well, sack is a rough word. My Ayah informs me that he has heard 'whispers' that he should perhaps consider 'going quietly'. We are a little puzzled by these whispers as Pak Lah knows Sanusi Junid well enough to realise that he's not the type to 'go quietly' and in fact would likely be provoked if such whispers came from the wrong people!

Anyway, perhaps we can all help my Ayah out. He is actually also now puzzled as to what excuse Putrajaya is dreaming up to have him 'go quietly' or sack or whatever. Could it perhaps be because:
  1. My Ayah has helped found and built IIUM Holdings, the university's investment holding company, into a multi-million ringgit business for the benefit of the students?

  2. Is it because the current UIAM President has been busy building the International Institute of Muslim Unity (IIMU) to foster brotherhood between Muslims globally with the help of UIAM's international alumnus, teaching force and student body?

  3. Is it because TS Sanusi Junid refused Putrajaya's request some years ago to use UIAM to spread the deviant Islam Hadhari teachings across Malaysia and the wider Muslim community?

But in drawing up the list above, I realised that I was probably biased! So, can some of you perhaps help list a few reasons perhaps why my Ayah may be sacked soon?
